I've got some already cooked Cajun shrimp and I want to boil some potatoes and corn in a way that mimics the taste of those served at a shrimp/crawfish boil. But I'm not sure how to do this, other than boiling them and seasoning them with Tony C's and lemon.
I'm from Louisiana and have been boiling and eating boiled crawfish with corn and potatoes my entire life. there are many different ways of doing it, but to get the flavor I think you are looking for is pretty simple. get a pot with enough water to submerge your potatoes and corn. Pour in some shrimp and crab boil- it can be Zatarain's brand, Louisiana Brand, etc. just make sure it is from Louisiana. it can also be the liquid or the powder type, it does not matter. I would follow the directions too since you are only cooking a little. definitely add some salt and lemons if you want. This stuff is pretty spicy so you may want to crack a window if boiling indoors.
EverythingLouisiana.weebly.com has all the seasoning and recipes if you are interested.
Bring a big pot of water to a boil, Add Old Bay Seasoning to taste, juice of lemon, 2 Bay Leaves, Cayenne Pepper to taste, and salt n pepper. Boil until potatoes are soft, about 20 minutes. Corn will be done then too. Strain out water and throw the whole mess onto a table covererd in Newspaper. Serve witth the shrimp on a plate if you're eating at the table of course…lol.
If you are trying to do like a low country boil all you do is boil them and then season the jesus out of them with a lot of cajun seasoning and serve with a lemon wedge.
