I felt a bit of discomfort in the gum area above my second molar while I was resting my hand on my cheek, so I went to look at it in the mirror, and I noticed that there is sort of a 'lump' type thing above my tooth. It only hurts when I press it, and it's sort of soft and a bit mushy feeling. It's not very big at all. I asked my girlfriend if she knew what it could be and she said a possible tooth abscess, so I Google Searched it, and it showed a few pictures of the "boil" things, and mine looks nothing like that. the tooth that it is above does not have a cavity in it at all. I know this for a fact, because I went to the dentist last month to have a checkup and he did an xray to see if there were any cavities in my teeth, There wasn't. So is this a possible tooth abscess, or something else? all answers are appreciated. thank you.
